Penetrant inspection is a very sensitive procedure to detect cracks and other defects open to the surface. If correctly
applied cracks with a width of 1 μm can be detected. Due to its independence of the work piece material penetrant inspection can be widely applied. Technical progress and a tendency to light-weight construction have also led to an increased use of dye penetrant inspection techniques.
